Aston Villa have confirmed the loan signing of Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho, who will remain at Villa Park until the conclusion of the 2026-27 season. The Blues stated that the transfer is set to become permanent next summer if specific conditions are met. Garnacho has already agreed to a four-year contract with Aston Villa.
The terms of the obligation to buy clause have not been publicly disclosed by either club. However, Chelsea anticipates that these conditions, which include the number of appearances Garnacho makes next season, are easily achievable. The London club expects to meet their original valuation of £43m for the player.
Garnacho’s move from Stamford Bridge follows Chelsea’s recent acquisition of Morgan Rogers from Villa for a club-record fee of £117m. Unai Emery, Villa’s head coach, expressed his satisfaction with Garnacho’s arrival, highlighting the player’s talent and desire to contribute to the club’s project.
Garnacho’s arrival and squad changes
Garnacho is Aston Villa’s fourth signing this summer, joining Johan Manzambi, Joao Gomes, and Modou Keba Cisse. Meanwhile, Villa’s player sales this summer have generated nearly £200m, with players such as Rogers, Youri Tielemans, Donyell Malen, Enzo Barrenechea, and Lewis Dobbin departing the club.
Chelsea had been looking to offload Garnacho despite signing him from Manchester United for £40m last September. Manchester United is entitled to 10% of any eventual transfer fee. Garnacho’s impact at Chelsea was limited, with one Premier League goal and eight goals in 43 appearances across all competitions.
The arrivals of Rogers and Sporting winger Geovany Quenda at Chelsea further increased the need to reduce the squad size. Garnacho, an eight-cap Argentina international, had also attracted interest from Roma.

Emery’s decision to bring in Garnacho reflects a faith in the young winger’s potential as he rebuilds his squad. The deal, structured as an initial loan with an obligation to buy, provides Villa with financial flexibility. Rashford’s 17-game spell at Villa Park in 2024-25 led to an England return, while Sancho’s impact was less significant. Harvey Elliott also had a loan spell, but Emery opted not to play him more to avoid triggering an obligation for a permanent transfer. Garnacho’s previous statistics, including eight assists and 16 goals in 93 games for Manchester United, suggest an area for improvement in his end product at Villa.

While no formal club-to-club talks have occurred, Emery is interested in reuniting with Jackson, with whom he previously worked at La Liga side Villarreal. Jackson has scored 30 goals in 81 appearances for Chelsea since joining from Villarreal in 2023 for £32m.
Jackson was considered surplus to requirements last season following the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap. Joao Pedro is expected to continue as Chelsea’s primary attacking option this season after scoring 20 goals in all competitions last term.
