FC Barcelona has reportedly re-engaged in discussions regarding the potential signing of Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane. According to reports, the Catalan club has initiated contact with Kane’s representatives to explore a possible transfer. This development comes as Kane is currently focused on England’s progress in the 2026 World Cup.

Kane’s current contract with Bayern is set to expire in 2027, meaning he will enter the final 12 months of his deal this week. While Kane is reportedly content in Bavaria and has expressed a desire to extend his contract until 2030, Bayern is said to prefer an extension of only two additional years. This contractual situation could potentially allow Barcelona to acquire Kane for a reduced fee, rather than Bayern losing him as a free agent in 2027.

Kane’s World Cup Performance and Club Situation

The England number 9 has been a key player for his national team in the 2026 World Cup group stage. He scored three goals, including an impressive brace in a 4-2 victory over Croatia. He also found the net against Panama, converting a cross from Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham. England is now set to face DR Congo in the last 32 of the tournament.

Despite the ongoing transfer discussions, Kane’s immediate focus remains on England’s campaign in North America, as he aims to overcome previous disappointments in the Euro finals of 2021 and 2024. His club situation is expected to be clarified once England’s participation in the FIFA World Cup concludes.

While Barcelona has reportedly contacted Kane’s representatives, there has been no firm offer tabled to either Kane’s camp or Bayern, according to one report. Previous inquiries by Barcelona were met with the response that Kane was happy at Bayern and did not wish to move, despite his contract situation.

Barcelona’s Transfer Strategy

Barcelona has a history of successfully integrating experienced strikers from Bayern. In 2022, the club acquired Robert Lewandowski for $57 million (€50 million) when he was approaching his 34th birthday. Lewandowski’s professionalism and physical conditioning allowed him to maintain top goalscoring form for Barcelona, where he lifted three La Liga titles and scored 120 goals in 193 appearances. He is set to leave the club as a free agent on June 30, with Chicago Fire reportedly his next destination.

At 32 years old, Kane is also described as a model professional who is still performing at a high level. His playing style, including his link-up play and passing, is seen as a good fit for Barcelona, potentially enhancing the performance of players like Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, or Anthony Gordon. He is considered a strong candidate to thrive at the Spotify Camp Nou under Hansi Flick.

Barcelona has also been linked with Julian Alvarez, who has reportedly agreed to a five-year deal with the club. However, the reported price tag of around $175 million, influenced by a bid from Real Madrid, presents a significant hurdle. Atletico Madrid is reportedly reluctant to sell Alvarez, particularly to a rival club.

Despite their interest in Alvarez, Barcelona is reportedly prepared to pursue Kane aggressively if there is any indication of his interest in a move to Camp Nou this summer. Kane’s camp, however, is said to have initially dismissed Barcelona’s interest, though an agreement has been made to revisit the situation after the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Bayern remains optimistic about Kane’s long-term stay, with his representatives reportedly open to a new deal. Formal discussions regarding a contract extension are anticipated to take place after the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.
