Pereira’s Departure from Nottingham Forest
Vitor Pereira has confirmed his departure as head coach of Nottingham Forest, expressing surprise at the decision. In a statement, Pereira conveyed his disappointment and sadness, noting that the decision came without warning. He also stated his respect for the club’s right to make choices it believes are best for its future. Pereira had signed an 18-month contract with Forest in February.
During his tenure, Pereira guided Forest to Premier League survival and also led the team to the semi-finals of the Europa League. He reflected on the memorable end to the season, highlighting the club’s achievements and the growth of the players under his leadership. Pereira thanked his coaching staff, players, and supporters, expressing gratitude for their passion and unwavering support.
Despite his unexpected exit, Pereira stated he leaves Forest with no bitterness, only respect, gratitude, and positive memories. He wished the club success in the future, calling it a special club that he hopes will continue to grow and achieve great things. This marks the end of his journey as head coach, a role he believed he was building something significant with.
Glasner in Talks to Take Over
Following Pereira’s departure, Oliver Glasner is currently in talks to become the new head coach of Nottingham Forest. Glasner, a former manager of Crystal Palace, is considered a top candidate for the role. He is a free agent after his contract with Palace officially expired.
Glasner’s potential move to the City Ground could stir controversy, given past tensions between Forest and Palace. Both clubs were indirectly vying for a spot in last season’s Europa League. UEFA ultimately ruled that Forest would enter the competition, while Palace was excluded due to multi-club ownership rules involving their former co-owner John Textor‘s interest in Lyon.
This decision led to a notable incident where Crystal Palace fans displayed a banner about Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis during a 1-1 Premier League draw at Selhurst Park on August 24. Palace was subsequently charged with misconduct by the Football Association. Despite being demoted to the Conference League, Glasner led Palace to European success, securing a 1-0 final win over Rayo Vallecano in May.

Managerial Changes and Future Ambitions
Glasner’s arrival would mark another change in management for Nottingham Forest, which has seen a significant turnover of head coaches. He would be the 11th permanent manager since Evangelos Marinakis acquired the club in May 2017. The club’s hierarchy, including Marinakis, reportedly expressed disappointment over the team’s Europa League semi-final exit to Aston Villa, which prompted the latest managerial change.
Forest has experienced a revolving door of head coaches recently, with Nuno Espirito Santo dismissed last September, followed by Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked after 39 days. Sean Dyche and then Vitor Pereira subsequently took charge. Despite this instability, Marinakis remains ambitious and has invested heavily in the squad, aiming for continued success in the top flight.
Glasner is now expected to lead Forest into the new Premier League campaign. His immediate task will be to implement his tactical vision and unify a squad that has faced considerable managerial changes. With strong backing from the owners, Glasner is anticipated to push for domestic success and further European qualification, aiming to replicate his previous triumphs at his new club. Glasner was considered by Manchester United and Chelsea before his discussions with Forest.

Pereira’s statement confirmed his departure from Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.
